AAAI Symposium 2008
Last week I attended the AAAI Spring Symposium - a conference on Artificial Intelligence, held at Stanford University. My paper with Johan Bollen on future mood assessment was in the Emotion, Personality and Social Behavior track. For some reason, the organizers kept each track separate from all others, and made it difficult for attendees to see talks in other tracks. Still, I managed to see some posters and talks in Creative Intelligent Systems, Semantic Scientific Knowledge and Social Information Processing. This is my report on some of the most interesting things I bumped into:
- Hiroshi Ishiguro presented his geminoid, a teleoperated android that resembles himself. He investigates the emotional behavior of children (including his daughter) that interact with it. Also seen on Wired.
- Ian Horswill discussed ways to model emotional attachment into cognitive agent architectures. He had a demo with children playing, fighting and hugging their parents.
- Antonio Camurri presented his work in musical informatics: empathy, entrainment and gesture in music performance. His current work at Infomus and Casa Paganini intersects very much with the performing arts. He is also organizing a conference on new interfaces for musical expressions.

- Rob Saunders: Towards a Computational Model of Creative Cultures (artificial creativity)
